Beauty Tips

KEEP YOUR HAIR SHINY & HEALTY

First make sure you have a professional to take for a healthy scalp and hair.

Straight hair doesn’t need much conditioning since it’s typically soft and smooth.

Clean: Comb your hair with a small-tooth comb daily to distribute the sebum to the ends of the shafts. Wash your hair every other day to ensure that Care: Deep condition your hair once a month to keep your hair soft and supple.

Style: When your hair gets flat, try teasing your hair at the crown and adding in hair spray. Use a blow dryer to dry it, and then repeat steps until you get ultimate volume. Also try blow drying your hair upside-down with a round brush.

WAVY HAIR

Has s-shaped curls down its length, it’s the perfect blend between straight and curly. Sometimes the hair can appear straight with slight bends towards the ends of the hair,or it can have consistent waves throughout the shaft. This hair has ultimate flexibility, and is easy to straighten, keep wavy, and curl. However, sometimes it can get greasy on the top and dry at the bottom, and is much more prone to frizz than other types.

**Clean:Wash your hair two to three times a week, and use dry shampoo for in-between days.

**Care:Use a deep conditioner twice a month to keep your hair soft. You can also use a dime-sized amount of leave-in conditioner or a couple of drops of argan oil to keep your hair from frizzing during the day.

**Style: Since wavy hair has many choices, you can choose whether you want to straighten it, leave it wavy or curl your hair more. We suggest keeping it natural and spritzing some texturizing or salt spray to give you a beachy look.

CURLY HAIR

Bouncy, playful, and full of volume. The strand thickness can range from fine to coarse but is most often fine. The greatest challenges for curly hair types are frizz, lack of curl definition, shrinkage, and dryness.

**Clean: Wash your hair just once or twice a week. Shampoo can strip the moisture out of curly hair more quickly, so make sure to apply some leave-in conditioner or argan oil.

**Care: Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week (before the day you wash your hair) to keep your hair silky and smooth, and your curls bouncy.

**Style: Use a heat protection spray before you run your hair through a diffuser, and spend some time styling the individual curls. If your hair gets frizzy, take a spray bottle and spray your strands again to give the curl a chance to re-form.Coily hair has the tightest curls ranging from fine to coarse, with s-shaped and z-shaped curls. It is the most fragile of hair types. This type of hair is filled with texture, so you won’t have to worry about your hair slipping out of a braid or style. A common problem with coily hair is that it is dry and fragile, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look beautiful.Clean: Wash your hair just once a week with a cleansing conditioner.Care: Seal your hair with heavy oils and coating butters (like shea butter), right after the shower, and put it through a pre-treatment with a hot oil treatment to make it easy to wash.Style: You can wear it natural, braid it, or put it up in a bun. You decide. If you want to give yourself a voluminous fro, use a diffuser to dry it 50% of the way, then let it naturally air dry. The less heat you use on coily hair, the better. And there you have it! Four hair types and four hair care routines to go with them.

COLOR TREATMENT

"Color's worst enemy is water," n fact, the latest research shows as much as 80 percent of color fade is caused by water alone, not shampooing or scrubbing.Dye strips the strands of their outer lipid layer. Like the natural oils found on your skin, lipids make hair feel soft and smooth, and their loss has a cascade of negative effects. For starters, hair becomes more porous, which is why, in the shower, colored hair absorbs and releases water easily. As it exits, water takes along with it some color molecules, explains Thomas. Your dye job, whether applied at home or in a salon, winds up literally going down the drain. To minimize this water-induced fading, take these precautions:

**Think twice about becoming a redhead

**Avoid excessive rinsing in the shower

**Stick to lukewarm or cooler water

**Wash your hair less frequently.

Add these extra universal rules of thumb to help your hair stay its most healthy and beautiful:

Always use heat protectant before styling.

Investing in a silk pillow to prevent breakage.

Eat healthy foods and drink water to help new hair grow beautifully.

STYLE YOUR HAIR DAILY

** When blow-drying the hair, ALWAYS use a good protective conditioner beforehand.
** Direct the air stream along the hair shaft at an angle toward the ends of the hair. This minimizes the risk of the hot air roughing up the cuticle of the hair and leaves the finished style looking smoother.

**Keep the air stream moving and always hold the dryer at least 6-8 inches away from the hair. Most incidents of damaged hair from blow-dry styling come as a result of holding the hair in the heated air stream too long.
**Hot Rollers: These tools use a combination of heat and/or moisture to change the curl pattern of the hair. Designed to be used on dry hair, hot rollers work by wrapping segments of hair around the heated tools, and leaving the tools in place until they cool. One factor that works as a plus for hot rollers is convenience. You can wrap your hair in hot rollers and then continue to get ready while they cool and "set". Finish dressing, apply your make-up, have breakfast, or do anything you need to while you let the rollers cool. Once cooled, remove the rollers and style your hair as desired.
** Always make sure the hair is wrapped smoothly and held securely in the rollers. Good tension in the roller ensures that you get the best curl result.

** A light misting of hairspray on the wrapped rollers will give a little extra hold and "lift" to the curled hairstyle.
**Make certain that your hair is completely dry before using the hot rollers and ALWAYS let the rollers cool COMPLETELY before removing them. Most of the incidents of poor results from using hot rollers come as a result of having still-damp hair before using the rollers, or from taking down the rollers before they have completely cooled. Remember heat and moisture will break the side bonds needed to change the curl pattern of the hair, but they don't get reset into the new curl pattern until the hair is again cooled and dry.

** Curling irons only work well on completely dry hair. If your hair is even a little damp, the resulting curls will be limp, if they manage to hold at all. (Using a flat-iron on still-damp hair only serves to swell the hair shaft. Applying the concentrated heat of the flat iron's elements onto the damp hair basically "cooks" the hair, and can seriously damage it.)

**Curls formed using a curling iron must be allowed to cool fully before they are manipulated further. (Likewise, segments straightened with a flat iron should be left to cool to prevent reversion to the previous curl pattern.) Wrap the segment of hair around the curling iron barrel, hold the tool in place for a few seconds to evenly heat the hair, then gently slide the barrel out of the curl and allow it to sit in place until it cools.

**Lightly misting the segment of hair with hairspray will give a stronger hold to the resulting curl, or will help to eliminate frizz in flat-iron styles.
